Shield Emitters in Star Trek: Outposts Unknown
Select a Shield Emitter to turn it off using its power control, or adjust the Power Setting slider. Consider both crew comfort and the protection you lose.
Turn a Shield Emitter off
Select the Shield Emitter and use the power icon at the top-right of its building panel. Manage each emitter individually.
Switching it off also removes the protection and comfort support that emitter was providing. Check the crew and work area it covers before doing so.
Why keep it on between storms?
Shields are not only a reaction to an active storm. Their role also includes protecting crew and maintaining comfort. Temperature effects and the crew members working in the covered area matter when deciding whether to shut one down.
Do not assume every species, location or shift will react to the loss of coverage in the same way.
Reduce the power setting
If the grid is under pressure, inspect Shield Controls → Power Setting. A higher setting increases power consumption, so reducing it is another option to consider alongside shutting the building down.
After a change, check the actual power supply, coverage and crew effects. A brief warning is not enough to diagnose every power problem as a harmless display delay.
Basic and upgraded protection
Do not apply an upgraded shield’s Sarium Crystal needs to every basic level-one emitter. Upgraded Tetryon protection has different resource requirements.
Turning the whole building off is different from changing an upgraded protection mode. If your goal is to stop crystal consumption while keeping basic coverage, inspect the settings available in your version rather than assuming the power slider changes the protection type.
Tetryon Cleansing Shield is also a separate building name, not simply another label for a basic Shield Emitter control.
